Owners, property managers and tenants should have a plan to protect assets and mitigate losses from storm damage. See the helpful guide attached.
Listed below are some additional steps regrading glass & storefront.
1. Check that drains, gutters and downspouts are clear and able to divert water away from building.
2. Protect louvers & vents from ingesting driven rain.
3. Remove potential flying debris.
Trash cans, ash trays and other loose items.
Secure loose and non-permanent signage.
Secure benches and furniture.
4. Be sure all doors are locked securely when vacating building or unit.
Some hurricane rated doors have secondary locks that must be locked for full protection.
Check that Panic Exit devices are locked & bolts are engaged.
5. Be sure all operable windows are closed and securely locked.
Some hurricane rated windows have secondary latches that must be locked for full protection.
6. Install shutters if available.
7. Commercial storefront doors have thresholds designed to meet ADA laws.
By intent, they are notorious for allowing wind driven rain under the door.
Doors without substantial overhangs should be sand bagged or absorbent door socks in place.
Be sure to develop your disaster preparedness plan prior to the hurricane threat is imminent.
We at Lemon Bay Glass hope for no impact at all, but being prepared will allow you to focus on important things, yourselves and family.
