CDBIA P.A.L.M. Home

The CDBIA P.A.L.M. Home

P.A.L.M is an acronym that stands for Professionals Actively Leading and Mentoring. The Charlotte-Desoto Building Industry Association (CDBIA) has stepped forward in a big way to help with training of the future of the construction industry in Charlotte and Desoto County in a cooperative effort supported by the National Association of Home Builders, Florida Home Building Association, The Future Builders of America, Charlotte Technical College (CTC), our local Charlotte County Building Department and dozens of construction business owners both local and throughout the state of Florida. In 2015 the first P.A.L.M. Home was completed by the CDBIA and exceeded the expectations of all involved. Now we are gearing up for the P.A.L.M. Home 2 and hope that you will help us with this exciting project.

Local Construction students most of whom are members of the Future Builders of America, a program created by the Florida Home Builders Association will be assisting us in the construction of this project. We also have students in a new HVAC class and possibly electrical students coming to help. These students will have the chance to build a top notch custom home with potential employers as they learn more about the industry. Proceeds from the sale of the home will go to both local and state FBA programs and will help with funding for field trips, speakers, leadership camp scholarships, and cash scholarships for continuing education as well as tools and equipment for their trades as well as also providing necessary funding for our local builders association.

The creator of this project is Beth Cantin-Brown, co-owner of Cantin Homes and Contractor of Record for both homes.

Homes have been a showcase of local craftsmanship and will be for sale when completed. It will adorn the symbolic palm shutters on the front windows as the signature of the P.A.L.M. Home.

Our goal is to train students by building a home from the ground up.  We are looking to increase enrollment in the tech center with this project by expanding the current classes offered to possibly include other major trades like Electrical and Plumbing.

There is great potential for students to meet their future employer on the jobsite and get mentoring from local business owners. The business owners in turn have the chance to give back directly to the future of our community and make a real difference in our own back yard.
